A lot of people are not contented with seeing and observing the fishes in an aquarium or then feeding them with fish food. Most of them would like to decorate their aquariums with these aquarium ornaments that range from stones to plastic houses. Here are some things that aquarium owners should know about aquarium ornaments.
In putting these ornaments, people should be aware that adding more and more of these decorations will not actually do well for the fishes. Besides the fact there will be less space for them to move around, their habitat is being disturbed, thus disturbing their ways of coping with an environment that they are not basically compatible with. People should only put a few of these decorations. Yes, it’s fun to see them interact with these ornaments, but that does not necessarily mean that they are having fun.
Moreover, putting ornaments should be done in the beginning. As much as possible, the aquarium owners should do this beforehand and plan what the aquarium will look like. Adding more and more over time will again disturb their daily routine, not to mention the difficulty of the task, since these decorations should be placed without harming the fish and breaking anything inside the aquarium.
The ornaments may vary from plastic houses to large castle stones. There are no limitations to choosing one when it comes to the material, but as much as possible, consumers should go for the non-plastic choices. Some plastics have chemicals in them that may harm the fishes inside the aquarium, especially if it is placed beside a water heater (or temperature regulator.)
The prices of these ornaments are relatively cheap compared to the other accessories that come with the aquarium. However, some may be sturdier than others. Stone castles, for instance, might topple inside the aquarium especially if some fishes are too big for the holes. The weight of the castles should be taken into consideration. The consumer should learn how to compare two similar products and choose which one will definitely serve its purpose.
Ornaments, however, are not repairable. They cannot be returned to the store once broken and they do not have any warranty except when the product is damaged even before the consumers were able to use it – granted that they are still inside the facility. Extra caution should be practiced. In addition, people should not attempt to repair these ornaments through putting adhesives and connecting them once more, since these adhesives might be harmful to the fishes if in case it contaminates the water.
Aquarium ornaments are nice additions to any aquarium. However, people should bear in mind that they are not there just for the sole purpose of decorating the inside of the aquarium and make it look like a kingdom for the fishes. Since fishes are not really used to that environment, then it is the consumers’ job to make sure that their current habitat gets as close as it can be to the natural oceans that have served as the real home of these creatures.
